Future Communicators

Creative & Competitive Writing

Clear sentences first. Then a voice of their own.

All programs

Overview

Good writing starts with the basics: a wide vocabulary, correct grammar and paragraphs that hold together. Once those are in place, students have more freedom to experiment.

Classes mix creative pieces, such as stories and descriptive writing, with structured essays. Students also learn to read closely and explain what makes a piece of writing work, and those who are interested can prepare entries for writing competitions.

What students learn

  • A wider vocabulary and stronger grammar
  • Essays with a clear structure
  • A more confident personal voice
  • Close reading and analysis

How classes run

Students write in every class and get specific comments on their work, so they know exactly what to change in the next draft.

Typical class activities

  • Short stories and descriptive writing
  • Structured essays
  • Revising drafts after feedback
