Public Speaking & Debate

Practice speaking up in a room that wants you to do well.

All programs

Overview

Speaking in front of other people is a skill, and like any skill it gets better with practice. Students prepare and give short presentations, take part in structured discussions and learn how formal debate works.

Along the way they learn to organize their thoughts, listen carefully to the other side and make their case clearly.

What students learn

  • Confidence speaking to a group
  • Well-organized arguments
  • Persuasive delivery
  • Listening to opposing views and answering them

How classes run

Groups are small, so every student speaks in every class. Feedback focuses on one or two things to work on at a time.

Typical class activities

  • Prepared speeches and presentations
  • Structured class discussions
  • Practice debates

Not sure which program is right?

Tell us a little about your child and what you’re hoping for. We’ll suggest a program and, if it looks like a good fit, arrange a trial class.
